The Mathare Project

A 7-year film begun in 2001 that follows a group of children growing up at the Good Samaritan Children's Home in Nairobi, Kenya's Mathare slum (Orphans of Mathare is the first installment of this project).  The film explores the difficulties of growing up without parents amidst abject poverty, violence, drug abuse, and disease.

    

   

Glimpses of Southern Sudan

A series of short films that examine life in Southern Sudan after the January 2005 signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement that ended 20 years of civil war. The first short film, shot in and around Yirol in July 2006, examines the security, sanitary conditions, and health risks of returnees and internally displaced people.

   

Voyage to Amasia

A documentary about the Armenian Genocide based on Eric Hachikian's piano trio of the same name. Amasia is the city from where Eric's grandmother, Helen Shushan, fled during the Genocide. Through a modern-day journey to Amasia, the film will trace a path back to the past, telling Helen Shushan's story and the story of the Armenian Genocide.

   

The USS Bunker Hill

A feature documentary about the USS Bunker Hill, an aircraft carrier hit by kamikazes during World War II.  The film is based on interviews conducted with Americans who survived the attack, and friends of the two kamikazes who hit the ship.  Many of these friends were kamikazes themselves, and they help explain the mindset of those prepared to kill themselves for their country.
